Profile:
Dr. Xuetao CAO (2003)
Dr. Xuetao Cao graduated from the Second Military Medical
University (SMMU), Shanghai, China in 1986 and received
his Ph.D. in Immunology from SMMU in 1990. From 1992,
he became the Professor in Immunology at the Department
of Immunology, SMMU. He is now the Director of the Institute
of Immunology at the SMMU. He is also the Director of
the Institute of Immunology at Zhejiang University,
Hangzhou, China. He is the Managing Editor-in-Chief
of Chinese Journal of Cancer Biotherapy, the President
of Committee of Tumor Immunology and Biotherapy, Chinese
Association of Immunology, and the chief scientist of
the National Key Basic Research Program (973) in Immunology.
His field is the tumor immunology and immunotherapy.
He investigated cancer immunotherapy using cytokine
gene-modified vaccines. In recent years, his research
focuses on the dendritic cell-based immunotherapy and
gene therapy of cancer. He also reported the discovery
of novel full-length cDNAs from human dendritic cell
cDNA library by large-scale random sequencing, for example,
he found a new member of HSP70 subfamily HSP-DC which
activates dendritic cells and acts as potent Th1 polarized
adjuvant, a new member of MIP-2 which chemoattracts
neutrophiles and dendritic cells. He published more
than 70 papers in the international journals including
J Immunol, Cancer Res, J Biol Chem, Huamn Gene Therapy,
Gene Therapy.
